Melba was born on Pearl Harbor day on December 7 1941.
She attended Central High School.
Melba's dad worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad.
Melba was hard to get along with.

India was one of the first blacks to integrate the university of Arkansas
India discovered that Melba would be one of the first blacks to attend central high.
India had to take Melba to a white hospital because she had a massive infection.
She went to Fair Park for a Fourth of July picnic.
She could be found scrubbing the linoleum floor or baking cornbread.

She was a very quiet and private person who smiled and waved to Melba in the hallway .
