WHAT IS A DESIGNATED SEARCH AREA?
A designated area may be a public place set up temporarily.
It may be used for up to 12 hours.
The area must be approved as having a weapon based offence committed in the last 12 months.
Or, in a previous event of a similar type, a weapon based offence has been committed.
Notice of a designated area is published in a newspaper 7 days before.

WHAT IS A WEAPON?
A weapon is a thing designed or used to inflict bodily harm. These include items such as:
Weapons are either prohibited, controlled, dangerous articles or body armour.
Canisters discharging toxic or noxious liquids or chemicals such as capsicum spray.
Knives and swords, slingshots, knuckle dusters and daggers.
Note: imitation weapons, laser pointers and disguised weapons are also defined as illicit.
