PRESENTATION OUTLINE

WEATHER AND TECHNOLOGY:
THE PROS,CONS,AND FACTS ABOUT WINDMILLS:

Untitled Slide

PROS:

  • Windmills offer many advantages as sources of electricity. More examples will be ahead.
  • Clean energy with less greenhouse gas emissions.
  • It is compatible with many other land uses.
  • The cost of energy efficient has a net energy gain.

CONS:

  • One of the cons is that the machines are excessively loud.
  • They are a danger to wildlife (mostly birds and bats) and people.
  • They have a effect on the environment. (more information later)
  • The windmills produce a variable amount of energy generated each day.

How do windmills offer many sources of electricity?

Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy, such as using wind turbines to produce electrical power, windmills for mechanical power, wind pumps for water pumping or drainage, or sails to propel ships.

WHY DO WINDMILLS EFFECT WEATHER AND THE ENVIRONMENT?
The giant wind turbines cropping up on ridges, shorelines and other windy locales across the world affect more than the wind—they are also changing local temperatures, notes a new study. That's likely because the enormous blades chop up the incoming wind and thereby more thoroughly mix different layers of the atmosphere. According to temperature readings from one of the oldest wind farms in the U.S., near Palm Springs, Calif., the turbines make it warmer at night and cooler during the day, generally speaking.

FUN FACTS!

A SINGLE WINDMILL CAN PRODUCE

ENERGY FOR MORE THAN 500 HOMES.

In 2013, 12 states accounted for 80% of U.S. wind-generated electricity: Texas, Iowa, California, Oklahoma, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Oregon, Colorado, Washington, North Dakota, and Wyoming.

Most wind turbines (95%)
are installed on private land.

Wind power is also unique for the fact that it does not use any water. By 2030, wind power will save around 30 trillion bottles of water in the U.S.
