By Isabella Robbins
2.
Weathering
The breaking down of rock at or near earth's surface
3.
Mechanical Weathering
any of the various weathering processes that cause physical disintegration of exposed rock without any change in the chemical composition of the rock
4.
Chemical Weathering
Occurs when chemical reactions dissolve the minerals in rocks or change them into different minerals
5.
Deposition
The process by which sediments settle out of the water or wind that is carrying it, and is deposited in a new location
6.
Erosion
The process by which the surface of the earth is worn away by the action of water, glaciers, winds, etc.
7.
Deflation
The erosion of sand, soil, etc., by the action of the win
8.
Windbreak
a thing, such as a row of trees or a fence, wall, or screen, that provides protection from wind
9.
Mudflow
a flowing mass of soft, wet, unconsolidated earth and fine - grained debris, made fluid by rain or melted snow and often building up great speed
10.
Rockslide
the downward sliding of a relatively dry mass of earth and rock
11.
Moraine
a mass of rocks and sediment carried down and deposited by a glacier, typically as ridges at its edges or extremity
12.
Esker
a long ridge of gravel and other sediment, typically having a winding course, deposited by melt water from a retreating glacier or ice sheet
13.
Outwash
material carried away from a glacier by melt water and deposited beyond the moraine
14.
Contour Farming
the practice of tilling sloped land along lines of consistent elevation in order to conserve rain water and to reduce soil losses from surface erosion
15.
Dunes
a mound or ridge of sand or other loose sediment formed by the wind especially on the sea coast or in a dessert
16.
Soil Erosion
the washing away of soil by the flow of water
17.
Overgrazing
graze so heavily that the vegetation is damaged and the ground becomes liable to erosion
18.
Terracing
a raised, flat mound of earth with sloping sides
19.
Slump
a form of mass wasting that occurs when a coherent mass of loosely consolidated materials or rock layers moves a short distance down a slope
20.
Creep
the slow downward progression of rock and soil down a low grade slope
21.
Sandstorm
dust storm; a storm caused by strong wind and sand or dust
