weathering

what's the forecast?

Weathering is when different forces act upon rock to weather it.

Erosion is what happens after weathering. It takes weathered rock and carries it somplace else.

Deposition is when rock is deposited into the bottom of a river or lake. It is then changed to sedimentary rock.

Chemical weathering is weathering that uses chemical reactions. It is most common around bodies of water, Since most chemical reactions use water.

Mechanical Weathering uses heat and pressure to split and weather rocks. It changes them to metamorphic.

Wind erosion carries rocks away via wind. It is bad for humans, however. It blows dirt on homes, covers streets, and smothers crops.

Glacier erosion happens when a glacier partially melts and slides off, turning anything that crosses it's path into rubble.

Gravity erosion is when soil and rocks are moved as a result of gravity.

Soil erosion creates gullies and destroys the surface of the earth.

Glacial till are lumps of glacier that have disconnected from the main surface of the glacier.

Forest harvesting is when fores material is harvested for use by humans or animals.

Creeping is when a side of a hill or a mountain moves downwards due to gravity.

Mudflow Carries dirt and rocks away with mud. It is dangerous, so it is advised not to approach it.

Slump is a large piece of rock and dirt that is in a slanted position Derived from Gravity erosion.

Soil conservation is a term used for ways people look for to save soil. They are usually farmers.

A sandstorm is, in a way, a tiny tornado full of sand. Is is part of erosion as well because it also picks up rocks.

Dunes are huge piles of sand on the earth's surface. Most commonly found on beaches and in deserts.

Avalanche, or rockfall, is when a large amount of rocks fall from the top of a mountain.

A glacier is a large mound of ice and rock, usually found in cold oceans.

Deflation is when rock is flattened by wind, giving the rock a deflated appearance.
