WEDDINGS IN GERMANY

GERMAN WEDDING TRADITIONS - BRIDE

  • White Ribbon- The Bride carries lengths of white ribbon with her bouquet, and after the church ceremony is finished with she hands each driver a ribbon to tie onto their radio antenna.
  • Kidnapping of the bride (brautentführung)- friends will take the bride pub to pub while the groom has to try and find her.
  • Brides tend to wear white dresses. (Similar to here in the United States)

GERMAN WEDDING TRADITIONS- GROOM

  • Junggesellenabschied- a few days before the wedding the groom and his friends go out to pub or other places to drink and have fun. (Bachelor party)
  • Groom usually wears black

GERMAN WEDDING TRADITIONS

  • Polterabend- the evening before the wedding the groom and bride host an informal party and smash a bunch of porcelain. The groom and bride are both responsible for clean up.
  • Car Procession- after the wedding is over with a line of cars is formed and drives through town honking their horns wishing the groom and bride good luck.
  • Rice- After the wedding is finished and the bride exits the church friends throw rice on her and it is said that as many rice grains stay in her hair will be the amount of children they have.

  • Ich will zu dem JUNGGESELLENABSCHIED gehen.
  • Ich möchte beitreten die BRAUTENTFÜHRUNG.
  • Ich möchte ein WEISSES KLEID tragen.
  • Ich möchte einen SCHWARZEN TUX tragen.
