Let them know their job, all it entails, when you expect it will be complete, and when it actually is complete!
Treat them like gold...better to use repeat volunteers than to always be training new ones
Get them into your donor database
Ask them to donate if/when the time is right

Don't overstaff, but allow for no-shows

Let them go when work is done
Get competent Team Leads
Ensure a plan to get them home depending on location
Be honest with volunteers - ensure they can be flexible with tasks, times
