Massachusetts

  • Founded By John Winthrop.
  • Massachusetts became a colony in the 1630(and later a state on February 6, 1788.
  • Part of the New England colonies
  • Major towns: Boston.
  • Major Battles and events: the Boston Massacre, Boston Tea party and the battle of bunker hill

John Winthrop

  • Married Mary Forth.
  • He was born on January 12 ,1588 to wealthy parents Adam and Anne Winthrop.
  • John Winthrop died on March 26,1649 in Boston, Massachusetts.
  • John Winthrop was a Puritan.

Geography

  • Massachusetts is thick with trees.
  • Lots of shore lines.
  • The soil is too rocky for planting crops.
  • The coast is jagged.
  • There are several rivers.
  • It's on the coast of the Atlantic ocean.

Religion

  • Puritans were led by the powerful leader John Winthrop, the founder of Massachusetts.
  • Puritans had no tolerance of other religions.
Later in the presentation we will explain what the Puritans were.

Economy

  • The major industries were ship building and the export of rum.
  • Some plants that were raised were squash, pumpkins, rye, beans and corn.

New Hampshire

Geography

  • The coast of New Hampshire is jagged and rocky.
  • There is very little coast lines.
  • There are high peaks.

New Hampshire

  • Founder: John Mason
  • Year Founded:1638
  • Major Town: Concord
  • Major Battles and events: Patriots take gun powder and cannons from Fort William and Mary. The battles of Concord and Lexington.
  • New Hampshire became a state on June 21, 1788.
  • Founder: John Mason

John Mason

  • He was born in 1586 in King's Lynn, Norfolk, England.
  • He died in 1635 the same year he was preparing for his first voyage to the New Hampshire colony.
  • John Mason served as governor of Newfoundland from 1615 - 1621.

Religion

  • Puritans were the names given to. members of a church congregation and is used to describe their beliefs and religions.
  • Wanted to get rid of all Catholics of the Roman church.
  • Part of the Anglican church(the Church of England)
  • Strongly opposed to the Catholic Church.
