WHAT IS WELFARE?

Financial help given to people in need.
sometimes known as financial aid.

More......A government program which provides financial aid to individuals or groups who cannot support themselves. Welfare programs are funded by taxpayers and allow people to cope with financial stress during rough periods of their lives. In most cases, people who use welfare will receive a biweekly or monthly payment. The goals of welfare vary, as it looks to promote the pursuance of work, education or, in some instances, a better standard of living.

But it all started in Rome......

Emperor Augustus provided grain for the citizens who could not afford food.

It was predominantly in the mid 19th century and early 20th centuries when an organised system of state welfare provision was introduced in many countries.

  • Promoting health for the person receiving the benefit
  • Allow children to have better nutrition and medical care

  • evenly distributes a societies wealth
  • keeps the population of the homeless from expanding

  • It encourages people not to get jobs.
  • Incurs cost to the local government.
  • Waste money on 'LAZY' people
  • Opportiunity of fraud 
lazy people are people who do not want to work because there are free benefits
