A TEAM APPROACH TO THE 1:1 iPAD INITIATIVE

TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATORS

- application process
- one TI at each grade level
- summer training/planning prior to district rollout
- devices to TIs, admin, and tech staff prior to rollout

STAFF TRAINING

Staff Training:

- 2 days Apple training over summer (optional)
- attending staff received iPads
-non attending staff required to meet and train separately with TI- checklist of skills
- staff technology day before start of school
- TIs assist in iPad rollout

CART ROLL-OUT

Cart Roll-out
- TIs started year with cart
- TIs met weekly
- tech staff able to assess impact on small scale and address needs
- staggered roll-out by grade level over 5 weeks

Challenge:
- creating system that worked for individual classroom/students

Success:
- students respond well to new responsibilities

Apple TVs:

- PTO purchased
- TIs assisted in set up and training

-new students, transient students ( licensing, equipment)--need continuous communication between teachers, staff and tech department

- parent teacher communication

- enhance and support curriculum using technology

FIRST GRADE

AURASMA, PIC COLLAGE, EDUCREATIONS

- time for planning and sharing--addressing with admin. support -cross training with TIs, moving away from the train and release model, more horizontal and vertical teaming, writing days, sub time, conferences

- student experts/ peer coaching
- moving toward using device as a creation tool rather than consumption tool

Finding appropriate apps:
--apple accounts per grade level
--budgeted pool of $$ for paid apps- many criteria discussions
-- waited a full year- turned out to be a blessing--become more experienced w/ evaluating apps

THIRD GRADE

TOOLS 4 STUDENTS, READ N RESPOND, MATH FACTS, GLOW DRAW, MAD LIBS
Third Grade:

Challenge
- staff with varying experience levels

- variations in instruction
- vertical teaming

- promotes multiple modalities

- Internet issues and how they are being addressed, continuous communication with tech dept.

- automated grading
- engaged learning- story of Trevor

- learning to have a backup plan/ flexible with learning curve involved
- word processing- Google Docs, Notability

Successes
- instant research
- online testing with Socrative--looking at using Nearpod in near future

- changing mindset to the cloud
