Wequonnoc is a small elementary school that offers a different approach to teaching and learning. I never like to say we are better than the other schools in the district, we simply are different.

We are considered a STEAM school however, we specialize in the integration of the arts and technology into the NPS curriculum. Essentially, your student is being exposed to more art and technology in class throughout the course of the day/week.

Wequonnoc offers electives to students in grades 3-5. Depending on the schedule for the year, students may choose 3 different art, music and technology electives over the course of the year. This program gives students the chance to focus on something specific like photography, ukulele, digital music, animation, coding, etc.
Students in grades K-2 will have technology, music or art enrichment instead of electives. Enrichment may also change according to the schedule for that school year.

We are the only elementary school to offer band to students in grades 4 and 5. We have over 50 instruments available to rent. Students in band will perform at least 3 times a year at our annual concerts.

We have partnered up with a number of community organizations to create a unique program for our students. Every Friday, one grade level rotates through 3 half hour activities. Students participate in extra art instruction with The Mystic Arts Center, music instruction with The Music Community School and science instruction with New England Science and sailing. Additionally, we have partnered up with Slater Memorial Museum and every grade level gets to visit the museum at least once or twice throughout the school year. Also, our Fifth graders have the opportunity to visit and work with students form Three Rivers Community College when they participate in the photography elective.
