HYPERTRICHOSIS

CHARACTERISTICS

  • Unwanted, abnormal amounts of hair
  • Usually located on the limbs or on the face

The disease makes a person have the appearance of a werewolf due to the strange hair on the body.

CAUSES

  • Medications such as: phenytoin, minoxidil,cyclosporine, diazoxide, etc.

CAUSES PT. II

  • Spontaneous mutation on the x- chromosome( it can be passed down genetically
  • This means someone can be born with the disease

TREATMENTS

  • Repeated shaving
  • Chemical epilation
  • Electrolysis and thermolysis
  • Waxing
  • These can cause scarring, dermatitis, or hypersensitivity reactions

QUALITY OF LIFE

  • Most people become less sociable
  • They also lose a lot of there self-esteem

LIFE EXPECTANCY

  • The life expectancy of someone with hypertrichosis is the same as someone who does not suffer from the disease.

INTERESTING FACTS

  • Only one out of a billion people will be diagnosed with this disease.
  • It is one of the few diseases that do not affect a person's lifespan.
