Cotton Gin was a machine that seperates the cotton fiber from the seeds. The cotton is used to make clothing and other household items. Cotton Gin influenced people to move out west because plantation owners needed more land to fulfill their needs.

Eli Whitney was a hardworking and creative inventor. He was against slavery and wanted to help make their lives easier. He invented the Cotton Gin. It separates the cotton seeds from the cotton fabric fifty times faster than any person could ever do it. This made slaves jobs so much easier than before. This invention changed America because it makes production time in making clothes go faster.

TELEGRAPH

The telegraph was invented by Samuel Morse in the 1840's. It acts almost as a modern day telephone. The Telegraph sends coded messages to people and those messages travel through wires that stretch across the country. More and more people started using it as time went on. Before the telegraph nobody wanted to move out west because it was so hard to contact people in the east. The telegraph made it easier to keep in contact with people from great distances. So therefor this invention influenced people to move westward.

Today the modern day telegraph isn't connected to wires but still can reach people at great distances. The cell phone acts as a telegraph but is much easier and faster to do. The telegraph changed life in America because it is a faster way to communicate with others.

STEAMBOAT

The Steamboat was invented by Robert Fulton in 1807. This large capacity boat is powered by steam. The power of this steam makes the propellor at the back of the boat turn, pushing the boat forward through the water. Today the steamboat is replaced by boats that burn fuel to make a propellor turn. This invention changed America because it led to the creation of motorized water vehicles. Without the steamboat some places of America might still be left unexplored.

People of America needed to move west. Most of them couldn't make the travel on land because it was either too expensive or too treacherous of a journey. The steamboat was a perfect solution to they're problems. They only had to take a ride on this steam powered boat in the Atlantic Ocean and it would take them to the Gulf of Mexico. A steamboat was most definitely a fast and easy way to travel.

RAILROADS

Railroads were a system of transportation routes that were only suitable by one type of vehicle, a train. Railroads were connected trails across America leading all the way out to the west. Today we still have trains but aren't our main use of transportation. Today we use roads and cars but in the eighteen hundreds it was the fastest way to get around on land. This has changed America today because it started the idea of burning fuel to make a transportation vehicle run.

One of the main reasons people couldn't or didn't want to move westward was because they couldn't make the trip. Either it was too long or too dangerous, Americans didn't want to take the risk. Railroads made their worries go away. Now there was a way to move west in a safe and time conserving way. Trains also made traveling easier for people who need to carry luggage or large items.
