COLOR OF STARS

  • The color of light that we actually observe is related to the speed at which its moving with respect to us
  • The color of light that a star emits is also somewhat related to its age
  • According to Hubble the color of stars can tell us wether the stars are receding from us and the speed of their acceleration
  • The temperature depends on some combination of the stars mass and evolutionary phase
  • The color of a star tells us it's temperature

  • The color a star emits is different than the color that we observe
  • The Doppler affect changes the frequency of light waves
  • Frequency of light is directly related to its color
  • Light emitted by a star moving away from us appears more red
  • Light emitted by a star moving towards us appears more blue
