HOW IT FORMS

Tornadoes form in usually violent thunderstorms when there is a sufficient instability and wind shear present in the lower atmosphere.

The way the rotation happens is when winds at two different altitudes blow at two different speeds creating wind shear.

If the column gets caught in a supercell updraft, the updraft tightens the spin and it speeds up much like a skater's spin faster when arms are pulled close to the body. The funnel is now created.

WHEN IT HITS

The rain and hail in the thunderstorm causes the funnel to touch down creating a tornado.

When a tornado is coming, a siren goes off and you need to take shelter.

Places that you should take shelter at is, if you do not have a basement, go to the center of a room, such as a closet, or hallway, stay away from corners, windows, doors, and outside walls.

THE DAMAGE

A single violent tornado could cause as much as$20 billion in property damage.

There would be deaths and injuries.

Thousands of people would be homeless, tens of thousands would lose power, and hundreds of people would be unable to work.
