The Moa was a flightless bird that came to its final days around the year 1400.There were nine species.Different moa preferred different habitat. Some moa lived in tall, wet bush, while the other species lived on drier grasslands and less dense forest or in sub-alpine areas.
Before the Māori arrived in New Zealand, the moa's main enemy was Haast's eagle, which preyed on adult moa, while chicks and eggs were predated by the now extinct large harrier.

The Moa are now extinct due to the fact that maori over hunted and there was a lack of habitation for the Moa to live. The moa were an easy target to hunt as they were flightless and a big target. The Maori used the Moa for food, clothing, pendants and fish hooks that came from the bone.
