PHYLUM
- Molluscs are one of the biggest phyla
- Composed of three different classes
- Bivalve, gastropod, and cephalopod
CHARACTERISTICS
- All have soft body containing visceral mass, a foot, and a mantle
- The mantle secretes hard shell
- Usually have a radula
BIVALVE
- Clams, oysters, mussels, and scallops
- These account for 7500 of the species
- Their name comes from the 2 valves which the shell is divided
- Lack defined heads though eyes may be present

GASTROPOD
- Snails, whelks, periwinkles,abalone, and slugs
- Largest group at about 37500 living species
- Have either single shell or no shell
- Live in salt and freshwater and also on land

CEPHALOPOD
- Are the most evolutionary advanced animals to be found in invertebrates
- 600 living species in this strictly marine class
- Octopus seldom reach 30 cm giant squids up to 6 meters not counting tentacles
