PROTECTION

  • Turtles use shells to protect their body.

MOVEMENT

  • Turtles swim and walk
  • On land turtles walk on their toes and move slowly

HOMEOSTASIS

  • Sea turtles have salt glands which means they ingest excess salt with their food and excrete it through the salt glands

HOMEOSTASIS

  • Turtles are ectothermic, this means they get their heat from their surroundings.

CIRCULATION AND RESPIRATION

  • 3 chambered heart
  • 2 aorta
  • 1 ventricle

  • Closed circulation

DIGESTION AND NUTRITION

  • Use jaws to rip pieces of food
  • Elongated intestines, making digestion process last as long as four weeks

  • Temperature affects the sex of the turtle before it hatches.
  • Higher temp. = females
  • Lower temp. = males

  • Turtles are oviparous , meaning they lay eggs and they develop inside of the egg.
