WHAT IS RECONCILIATION?

  • The sacrament of reconciliation revolves around the confession of sins to a priest or holy figure of the church. This sacrament provides a chance of forgiveness from god to learn from your past mistakes and/or sins and create a better life from them.
  • Reconciliation allows us to reconcile and to acknowledge our wrong doings. By recognising this we strengthen our once weak relationship with god

WHAT IS RECONCILIATION

  • Sin causes individuals to become alienated or outcasts and reconciliation provides a chance to once again be welcome in the church community

THE IMPORTANCE OF RECONCILIATION IN THE CHURCH

  • Reconciliation holds a high importance in the church due to the fact it can heal or strengthen your relationship with God and/or the Catholic Church
  • This sacrament also enforces the values of the church and how you will always be welcomed by God and have a place in the church community
  • Reconciliation is a time of forgiveness, a large value commonly acted out by Jesus through his actions and enforced by him. So Reconciliation is honoured in the church as it acts out Jesus' will

HOW DO CATHOLICS GO TO RECONCILIATION?

  • When Catholics go to reconciliation they enter with a holy or reverent attitude towards the church
  • We feel a sense of relief due to the fact we can once again feel welcome in the Catholic Church community after the acknowledgment of our sins or wrong doings
  • We go so we can heal our damaged or at risk relationship and learn from our past wrong doings

HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE GO TO RECONCILIATION?

  • The minimum amount in which you should go to Reconciliation as a member of the Catholic Church is once a year
  • Though ideally we should be going once a month
  • This is a more ideal time frame due to the fact that we sin so often, we are not perfect and sin in our daily life. Due to our common sin this means we have to seek forgiveness continuously

THE BENEFITS OF RECONCILIATION

  • A benefit of reconciliation is the relief felt once your sins are confessed and the guilt leaves your body. You can learn from your sins, mistakes and wrong doings and move on
  • Your faith, relationship with God and relationship with the Catholic Church strengthen
  • By aknowledging your sins you become more valued and looked up to as an individual
  • You become more mature as an individual and more wise in your decisions in the future

WHAT DOEA SCRIPTURE TELL US ABOUT RECONCILIATION?

  • Reconciliation is commonly talked about in the scriptures. But not always upfront. It is talked about so much as sin and forgiveness (a large part of reconciliation) is a large contribution to the church itself.
  • Reconciliation is found in scriptures as it withholds several values in the sacrament that are enforced by the church community
  • The church wants these values to be outtaken by us as faithful members of the church community
