What must I do to be saved?

"Save"

• Several connotations in the Bible
• From physical to spiritual deliverance
• We're focusing on deliverance from sin
• From Greek word "sozo"
• to save, deliver, protect, heal, preserve

Elements of Salvation

• Faith - Hebrews 11:6
• Repentance
• Baptism
• Holy Ghost

Faith

• Confidence or trust in a deity
• It's essential to believe God
• Yet mental belief alone isn't enough

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted... [and] in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

1Corinthians 1:21 ...it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Repentance

• An action on our part in response
• Demonstrates our belief in God

Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Mark 1:15 ...repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Mark 2:17 ...I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Acts 17:30 ...but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

2Peter 3:9 ...but [God] is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Repentance

• Have a change of heart/mind
• Not just feeling sorry but asking
• Also it's confessing that Jesus is God
• Turning around and living for Him

Baptism

• By immersion in water
• In Jesus name
• It's how the Blood washes (Acts 22:16)
• We receive remission of sins (Acts 2:38)

John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Acts 2:38 ...and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,...

• Purchased with His blood - Acts20:28

• Evidenced by Speaking in Tongues
• Available/essential for us today - Romans 8:9
