1st paragraph

• say important facts, only
• ap tests have something to reveal
• must figure out what to reveal
• what is the author trying to tell us about being human, shared experiences
• sorrows and victories. 

2nd

• easier to write once understood
• until you see the human purpose, you won't have anything to say

• control of rhetoric (argue a point. state claim, explain it, make reference
• control of conventions (no commas or egregious errors
• control of structure (intro and conclusion)

• dont trouble yourself about structure
• think essay, not paragraph, not answer to the question
• whenever you state something true, show textual evidence
• explain
• your thoughts are self evident, must explain to reader
