  • Islamic Empire that ruled Northern India
  • Ruled by Islamic Emperor
  • Became a key supplier of cotton to England

  • ruled by Qing Dynasty
  • traded along the Silk Road - textiles, porcelain, paper
  • established foreign enclaves to limit trade and contact with foreigners
  • invented compass

Japan

  • Ruled by a powerful shogun - military general
  • Emperor had no real power
  • Isolationist - completely cut off contact and focused on trading within their own empire

SONGHAI EMPIRE

  • Ruled my monarch (King) that was usually Muslim but majority of people were not
  • Cultural center of Africa - Timbuktu
  • Traded in slaves, salt, and gold

Central America (Mexico) - conquered by Spanish explorers

South America - conquered by Spanish Explorers
