Known for miscue analysis (1969). Goodman believed that instead of errors, these were miscues, or 'windows' into a child's oral language development, and provided insight into what type of instruction was needed.
When I become a teacher I will have to focus on the type of error a child is making in order to help him understand the correct way or answer.
Known for his Interactive Model of Reading (1977).He believed that readers used the print, as well as what they knew about the topic, letter-sound knowledge, mechanics of writing, vocabulary, and contextual understanding in order to make meaning from text.
As a future teacher I will need to be familiar with this research because everyone puts multiple ways they were taught to read into persepective when understanding text.
Known for 'kidwatching' (1978).She believed that teachers should rely on kidwatching rather than just on test scores to better understand individual reader's strengths and areas of need.
A teacher should always be watching her students for cues as to the readers developmental needs so they can attend to them, I plan to pay very close attention to these cues.
