Who has influenced reading instruction?

Who has influenced reading instruction?

  • Louise Rosenblatt
  • Known for her Transactional Theory of Reading: The Reader, The Text, The Poem.
  • This will impact me as a future teacher because my future students will be interpreting authors texts in their own opinions.

Who has influenced reading instruction?

  • Kenneth Goodman
  • Known for miscue analysis (1969). Goodman believed that instead of errors, these were miscues, or 'windows' into a child's oral language development, and provided insight into what type of instruction was needed.
  • When I become a teacher I will have to focus on the type of error a child is making in order to help him understand the correct way or answer.

Who has influenced reading instruction?

  • David Rumelhart
  • Known for his Interactive Model of Reading (1977).He believed that readers used the print, as well as what they knew about the topic, letter-sound knowledge, mechanics of writing, vocabulary, and contextual understanding in order to make meaning from text.
  • As a future teacher I will need to be familiar with this research because everyone puts multiple ways they were taught to read into persepective when understanding text.

Who has influenced reading instruction?

  • Yetta Goodman
  • Known for 'kidwatching' (1978).She believed that teachers should rely on kidwatching rather than just on test scores to better understand individual reader's strengths and areas of need.
  • A teacher should always be watching her students for cues as to the readers developmental needs so they can attend to them, I plan to pay very close attention to these cues.
