By:Emily Duval

THE NAVAJO CODE TALKERS

  • Started in May 1942, 29 original recruits
  • Used the Navajo language which was only spoken
  • The Marine Corps made the code further unbreakable by adding word substitutions
  • Eventually about 400 Navajo's participated in the program
  • The unbreakable code was able to give the U.S. a military advantage

Tuskegee Airmen

  • Originally called the Tuskegee Experiment because there was no expectation of sucess
  • White aviators did not want to fly with the balck aviators so they were segregated
  • Made sure enemy aircraft did not destroy bombers on their mission
  • By the end of the war the airmen completed over 200 successful missions

How they brought on change

  • Showed that the minorities can help the nation more that they are credited for
  • Although change was not evident immediately, they planted the seed of change
  • These brave men and women tackled racial stereotypes and proved them wrong.
