It started with witch trials sweeping over Europe in the 1300s to the1600s.

January of 1692 hysteria(an exaggerated or uncontrollable emotion or excitement) came upon 3 young girls.

Some symptoms they experienced was “fits,” hiding under furniture, contorting in pain and experiencing fever.

The girls were 11 year old Abigail Williams, niece of the minister Samuel Parris, and his own 9 year old daughter, Betty.

In Salem the tight-knit community was at a loss to explain the seizures, blasphemous screaming, and trance-like states that afflicted the young girls.

Why did the witch trials
happen. With this evidence from this presentation it shows that it happened because they thought that the witches were hurting the people.
