WHY DO CATS HAVE WHISKERS?

BY:HAILEY VELA

Cats
When we can't see in the dark we put out our hands so we won't bump into anything.Cats use there whiskers for the same reason. They use their whiskers in the dark because they sense objects or walls it will bump into.

SEEING IN THE DARK
Cats are great night-stalkers because they have larger retinas(membranes in the eyes that sense light) then humans, which let in more light when it is scarce. A mirror-like,tapetum lucidum, behind their retina makes their eyes glow at night and helps them see better. Cats can turn their ears toward a sound, allowing them to rapidly pinpoint the sound's source.

WHISKERS
Cats have 4 rows of whiskers on their muzzle, cheeks, and above their eyes. Whiskers are stiffer and much longer than any ordinary cat fur. Cats have more nerves, which makes them very sensitive to movement and touch.
