  • Bradford was born in Yorkshire, England to a prosperous farmer
  • Bradford jound a group of Nonconformist in 1606

  • 1608 the group of nonconformist crossed the ocean into Holland to escape persucution
  • This group stayed in Leiden for 12 years.
  • Where it is believed Bradford gained his education due to them living near a university.

  • The nonconformist sailed to America in 1620
  • They landed at Plymouth in 1621

  • William Bradford was one of the men to sign the Mayflower Compact which established government by consent
  • Bradford married a widow from Leiden in 1623 and had three children with her

  • Bradford was elected the governor of the Plymouth Colony after the death of John Carver
  • Bradford was re-elected no fewer than thirty times.

  • He hoped that it would inspire future generations to carry on the Pilgrims ideals
