William Cooper Childhood

William Cooper was an Australian Aboriginal who was born in Yorta Yorta Territory on 1860 and died on 1941. He spoke Yorta Yorta and lived there as a child. He was born to Kitty Cooper and James Cooper. He had 7 other siblings and was the fifth born out of the 8 children. He was the last out of his brothers and sisters to become Christian. His faith to Christianity was very strong for his entire life. He was one of the first pupils educated at Magola mission school near Echuca. As a child he was forced to work for many rural employers.

William Cooper Adult life

William Cooper married three women during his lifetime. He married Annie Murri, Agnes Hamilton and Sarah Nelson. Annie Murri had 2 children, the Mother and the 2nd child died during birth. Agnes Hamilton had 6 children. Sarah Nelson had none. William Cooper was a Political Leader and was a community leader and was active in the 1920s and the 1930s. William Cooper worked near Moira and Ulupna.
He was a very determined man and was very brave. He had so much courage he stood up to Adolf Hitler

William was very courageous to stand up to Adolf Hitler and tell him what he's doing is not right in any way. He was very brave and was very determined to be given Aboriginal rights for Australian Aboriginals.

Yes, William Cooper would be admired today because he was very brave, courageous and determined. He would be remembered because he was given Aboriginal rights. He is remembered on NAIDOC week (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee). He formed the Australian Aborigines League.
