Death is inevitable. Thanatopsis discusses the idea that everyone will eventually expire just like the other entities that came before us.

"Thou shalt lie down with the patriarchs of the infant world - with kings, the powerful of the earth, the wise, the good, fair forms, and hoary seeds of ages past."

We will return to nature where we came from. Bryant's use of words helps paint us a picture of his ideas.

Time will continue on throughout the ages, even after we are gone.

Embrace death and enjoy life. Bryant encourages humans to accept death willingly
