William Playfair was the first to devise and publish several different types of statistical charts.
Modern graphs that we use today are almost identical to his.
He understood the psychology of graphs reading made it easier to understand data.
He invited the time series graph or line chart, the bar chart, and the pie chart.
He moved to Paris and took part in the storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789.
He also become involved in a scheme to sell land in the colony of sciota in New York state to Frenchmen wanting to emigrate.
To avoid being arrested by the French government he moved to London.
He started a bank to provide small secured loans but the bank failed because the securities were insufficient to cover the loans.
Later he moved back to Paris but had to leave Paris again to avoid being arrested.
He moved back to London were he became a writer until he died at the age of 64.
Engineering has to do with math because engineering uses lots of math formulas.
