PRESENTATION OUTLINE

WAVE ENERGY VS. BURNING FOSSIL FUELS

WHICH IS GREENER?

WAVE ENERGY IS THE TRANSPORT OF ENERGY BY OCEAN SURFACE WAVES

  • Electricity generation
  • Water desalination
  • Pumping of water into resivoirs
  • Wave energy converter (WEC)
  • The main competitor of wave power is offshore wind power

WAVE ENERGY CONTINUED

  • The bigger the wave, the more energy it produces
  • Waves reach high speeds in the ocean
  • Wind is needed for wave power

FOSSIL FULES ARE RECOURCES FROM EARTH BURNED TO MAKE ENERGY

  • Coal, oil, and natural gas are all fossil fules
  • They have been around since before the dinosaurs
  • Carbon found in these recources burns
  • Organic material

ADVANTAGES OF WIND ENERGY

  • It is a clean fuel source
  • It doesn't pollute the air or water
  • The supply will never run out as long as we have oceans
  • Very inexpensive

DISADVANTAGES OF WIND ENERGY

  • You still need wind power for wave energy
  • Good wind sites are often far from cities
  • Wind recource development may not be the best use of land
  • Turbine blades might damage wildlife

ADVANTAGES OF FOSSIL FUELS

  • Can generate huge amounts of electricity
  • Coal is cost effective
  • Transportation can be made easy through pipes
  • Power stations can be built anywhere

DISADVANTAGES OF FOSSIL FUELS

  • POLLUTION!
  • The burning chemicals can result in acid rain
  • They use non renewable recources
  • They need huge amounts of each rocource
