PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MOVEMENT OF AIR

  • The sun causes air movement.
  • Wind is air coming from higher pressure.
  • The coriolis effect is a bend in the road of a moving object from a regular straight path.

GLOBAL WINDS

  • Pressure belts and coriolis effect are two factors that are produced by global winds.
  • Easterlies, westerlies, and trade winds are three major wind systems.
  • Jet streams are small stripes of high speed winds that come from west to east.

LOCAL WINDS

  • Sea breeze is a cold wind from water that comes up to land.
  • Land breeze is warm wind that comes from land and travels to water.
  • Valley breeze travels upward because of low pressures.
  • Mountain breeze moves along mountains then cools at night and moves downward.
