WIND ENERGY

NEVER RUNS OUT, HERE FOR ETERNITY

WIND POWER AND HOW IT WORKS

  • Wind is moving, so that makes it kinetic energy
  • This energy can be captured by wind turbines
  • A wind turbine is a blade that takes wind energy and converts it to electricity.

HOW IT WORKS CONTINUED

  • It all starts from the sun, because the sun heats up the ground and so hot air starts to rise.
  • Then the cold wind rushes into open space the hot air left open, as it does this the hot air gets carried.
  • When the wind pushes against the blade the turbine starts to move.
  • Then the turbine blades spin a shaft that leads to a rotor, and the rotor leads to the generator.
  • So, the generator turns the rotational energy into electricity.

HOW MANY WIND FARMS IN MISSOURI, KANSAS, ILLINOIS , AND IOWA

FUN FACT

  • The largest wind farm is in Texas
  • It has 421 wind turbines!!
  • It also spreads over 47,000 acres of land!!
  • THAT'S A LOT!!!🙊

HOW COULD IT BE USED??

  • It can be used to power things
  • Example: lights, electricity, etc.

POSITIVES

  • It is renewable
  • Doesn't cause pollution
  • Cost-Effective

NEGATIVES

  • Can't tell when it is going to happen (unreliable)
  • Cost to store
  • Collision with wildlife
  • Causes lots of NOISE!!🙉

ARE WIND FARMS ACCEPTED??

YES, IT IS WIDLEY ACCEPTED BECAUSE THERE ARE MULTIPLE ACROSS AMERICA

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS??

  • Destroys animal habitats
  • Can damage land and hurt people in cold and hot weather.
  • We get energy/electricity
