WINSTON LEONARD SPENCER-CHURCHILL
BACKGROUND
- Born near Oxford on November 30th, 1874
- 1893 - Went to military school in Sanhurst
- Graduated from military college with honors
- Went into an army career
- And was a journalist during the Boer War
BACKGROUND
- In May 1940, Churchill replaced Neville Chamberlain
- He then became prime minister of Great Britain
- In his first month of prime ministry, France fell to the Nazis
HIS SIGNIFICANCE
- Was prime minister of Britian from May 1940 - July 1945
- France collapsed in his first month of being prime minister
- Refused to make peace with Germany
- Britain was the only European democracy still fighting Hitler
- Often got in arguments with Hitler
ALLIES
- Churchill, Stalin, and Roosevelt came together to discuss their alliance
- Churchill convinced the United States to get involved in the war
- He thought that getting the United States involved was the best decision
- The United States and Great Britain stopped the Nazis

ACHIEVEMENT OF WAR
- Had the idea of attacking Germany through Italy
- In the war, he tried to save democracy
- Tried to also save western Europe
- Greastest achievement was keeping Britain in the war

- Encouraged the British people to support him
- Wanted the support of the United States
- Ordered the planning of the attack on Germany
- Churchill was very good at getting the people to see from his point of view
