CHARACTERS

  • The main character is Lia, an eighteen year old teenager.
  • Lia's parents were divorced when Lia was in eighth grade.
  • Leaving her feeling abandoned and lonely.
  • She starts to starve herself and it all started as a bet with her best friend
  • On who could be the skinniest

  • Cassie is Lia's best friend and has been ever since third grade.
  • They lived across the street from each other, spent everyday together.
  • Ever since then, they have been there for each other.
  • Then as their bet went on, things started to get worse.
  • A night Cassie spent the night in a motel, was a night Lia wasn't there.
Cassie was Lia's best friend, they met in third grade when Cassie moved across the street from Lia, and ever since then they have been best friends. Beginning senior year, every thing went down hill.

PLOT

  • Lia and Cassie get this weird idea to see who can become the skinniest
  • Lia, an anorexic cutter who loathes her body, her family and her life.
  • She has many emotions and heightened when Cassie, her bulimic best friend dies
  • 33 missed calls, Cassie called crying for help but Lia is too scared to answer
  • Once Lia found out "body found in a motel room, alone" she knew.

WHAT HAPPENED?

  • Since they were starving themselves and being anorexic
  • For a decent amount of time, Cassie rented out a motel to get alone and
  • Did nothing but drink excessive amounts of alcohol which isn't good for her
  • Body function, as she kept drinking she kept calling for help but her
  • Body ceased and gave out on her and she died.

THEME

  • The idea of eating disorders and the things that trigger them
  • guilt - wether its real or that the person has made up.
  • frozenness - the girls are frozen in time and this is reflected in the presence
  • of winter in the novel, physically Lia is always cold because of the lack of her
  • body fat, but it also echoes back to the event of winter
