WOMENS SUFFRAGE

  • Definition- The right of women to vote and to stand for electoral office (also known as women's right to vote).

KEY PEOPLE

  • Suzan B. Anthony - part of the anti-slavery society and the anti-women suffrage association
  • Elizabeth Stanton- Campaigned against the 15th amendment. (denied women right to vote but granted men)
  • These two women who fought for equality formed the American Equal Right Association, and they also supported the 13th amendment.

DATES

  • 1919-Because it was un-just, the Nineteenth Amendment was passed by the senate. (Right to vote)
  • 1848- First women's suffrage convention held in Seneca Falls, with almost 200 women in attendance.

KEY DETAILS

  • American Equal Rights Association - formed 1866, purpose was to secure equal rights to ALL Americans.
  • Women's suffrage movement started in 1848, when the first convention was held.
  • Women can now vote.
