GOAL

WOMEN VOTE AND RUN FOR ANY GOVERNMENT POSITION

SENECA FALLS CONVENTION
-First event for women activists
-Organized by Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton
-Second day men were invited
-Passed 12 resolutions towards women voting

Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU)
-formed with views on alcohol
-got support from petitions, endorsements, etc.

Wyoming territory
-first to pass women's suffrage law
-6/7 territory was men
-signed mainly so women would move to Wyoming

Elizabeth Cady Stanton
-Co authored the declaration of sentiments (voting rights)
-Congress candidate (1866)
-Collaborated to write History of Woman Suffrage

Susan B. Anthony
-Arrested for voting
-Gave many speeches on women's rights
-Wrote a weekly article with Elizabeth Cady Stanton on women's rights

Sojourner Truth
-born into slavery but escaped in 1826
-delivered her famous speech "Ain't I a woman?" in 1851
-advocate for civil rights

Ida B. Wells
-sued a railroad company for being forcefully removed from her train car
-born into slavery

Personal Connection
I can't imagine what it would be like to not be able to vote and have basic rights, so I am very thankful for these women that brought our country equality in voting.

OUTCOME
Congress passed the 19th amendment allowing all women to vote in U.S. Elections
