BE A CONNECTOR

When people start networking, particularly if they are new or desperate they are all about the old AC/DC song, "I want you to want me."

Effective networking is not focused on you. Golden Rule Networking is about what you can do for others first. You need to think beyond that. You need to put others first and become a connector.

Look for opportunities to say,

- I'm curious about that...
- I know someone who.....
- I can help you with......

Who do I talk to?

Remember everyone who comes to a networking event is here to meet people. They did not come just to observe.

So who do you approach.

You see the 5 guys standing in a circle. They actually are there for the coffee and donuts and to catch up with their friends. Don't start there.

Look for people standing alone or in an arc. They are inviting you in.

WHAT DO I SAY?

What do I say?

Ask questions:

What do you do?
What do like about your work?
What activities led to your success?
What is your ideal employer / client / candidate?

* How can I help you?

Other questions?

Where are you from?
Where did you go to school?
How did you hear about this event?
