Family Restructuring

  • More of a separation between the roles of men and women. 
  • Children expected to work, less time for play
  • Men were the main source of income
  • Children as young as 6 were expected to work.

Dangers

  • This was due to poor living conditions and inadequate nutrition
  • Women were expected to work while pregnant.
  • Higher child mortality rate, due to poor living conditions

Changes to an Industrial Society

  • Workers would repeat the same monotonous tasks
  • Very long working hours: 10-12 hours a day
  • Work dominated the working classe's life
  • Very little time for recreation
