Slide Notes

Doing the right kind of work is
good for your health, even if you have a health condition.

You don’t always need to be fully recovered to
go back to work, and in fact it can often help
your recovery.

Your fit note can help you go back to work
when you’re able to.

Your doctor will not automatically assess that
you are not fit for work if you have a health
condition.

Instead, they will discuss with you how your
health affects what you can do at work.

They will think about your fitness for work in
general rather than just your current job.

By considering the options with your manager before you visit the Doctor you are able to offer reasonable alternatives to your current role and the GP can assess whether the suggestions are suitable or not.

Working with a Fit note

Published on Dec 01, 2015

Fit notes were issued instead of the old Sick Note in 2010 but many managers and workers do not understand their potential for allowing workers to continue working even if they have a health condition. This presentation demonstrates how both workers and managers can get the most out of the fit note by taking into account the health condition and the job.

But you and your Manager knows what is available and it is a good idea to think about that before going to the Doctor so that there are some options that can be discussed.
