PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Did you know that 805 million people or 1 out of 9 people in the world do not have enough to eat.
50% of pregnant women in developing countries lack proper maternal care, resulting in 240,000 maternal deaths annually from childbirth.
In Asia there is 525.6 million people hungry,In sub sahara Africa there are 214 million people hungry, and in latin america and the caribbean there is 37 million people hungry. Thats a total of 776.6 million people hungry combined.
1out of every 6 infants are born with a low birth weight in developing countries
Poor nutritions causes nearly half(45%)of deaths in children under 5yrs old. Thats 3.1 million children each day. that 8,500 per day.
66 million primary school age children attend classes hungry across developing countries around the world with 23 million in Africa alone.
Every 10 seconds,a child dies from hunger-related diseases .
All 7 billion people who go hungry either do not have land to grow food or money to purchase it.
1.4 billion people in developing countries live on $1.25 a day or less.
22,000 children die each day due to poverty.
The first 1,000 days of a child's life, from pregnancy through the age of 2, are critical.A proper diet in this period can protect children from mental and physical stunting(prevent from growing) that can result from malnutrition.
the National Center on Family Homelessness analyzed state-level data and found that nationwide, 1.6 million children experience homelessness in a year.
PO VERTY DOES NOT STRIKE ALL DEMOGRAPHICS EQUALLY. FOR EXAMPLE, IN 2013, 13.1% OF MEN LIVED IN POVERTY USA, BUT 15.8% OF WOMEN. ALONG THE SAME LINES, THE POVERTY RATE FOR MARRIED COUPLES IN 2013 WAS ONLY 5.8%–BUT THE POVERTY RATE FOR SINGLE-PARENT FAMILIES WITH NO WIFE PRESENT WAS UP TO 15.9%, AND FOR SINGLE-PARENT FAMILIES WITH NO HUSBAND PRESENT OVER 30%.
AND THOUGH POVERTY IS OFTEN PERCEIVED AS A PROBLEM OF URBAN ENVIRONMENTS AND INNER CITIES, THE POVERTY RATE IN METROPOLITAN AREAS (14.2%) IS ACTUALLY LOWER THAN THE POVERTY RATE IN RURAL AREAS (16.1%).
80% of the stunted children live in just 14 countries.
Price and income swings can significantly affect poor and hungry, when prices rise, consumers often shift to cheaper less nutritious foods.
THOUGH THE OFFICIAL CENSUS DATA GIVES SENIORS A 2013 POVERTY RATE OF ONLY 9.5%, THE SUPPLEMENTAL POVERTY MEASURE, WHICH ACCOUNTS FOR EXPENSES SUCH AS THE RISING COSTS OF HEALTH CARE, RAISES THE SENIOR POVERTY RATE TO AN ASTOUNDING 14.6%.
MILLION) WAS THE LARGEST NUMBER SEEN IN THE 54 YEARS FOR WHICH POVERTY ESTIMATES HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED.
IN 2013, AN ESTIMATED 72.7% OF MEN WITH EARNINGS AND 60.5% OF WOMEN WITH EARNINGS WORKED FULL TIME, YEAR ROUND. HOWEVER, IN 2013, THE EARNINGS OF WOMEN WHO WORKED FULL TIME, YEAR-ROUND WERE ONLY 78.3% OF THAT FOR MEN WORKING FULL TIME, YEAR-ROUND.
WHAT’S WORSE, 6.3% OF THE POPULATION—OR NEARLY 19.9 MILLION PEOPLE—LIVE IN DEEP POVERTY, WITH INCOMES AT ONLY 50% OF THEIR POVERTY THRESHOLDS. AND 33.9% OF THE POPULATION—OR 106 MILLION—LIVE CLOSE TO POVERTY, WITH INCOMES LESS THAN TWO TIMES THAT OF THEIR POVERTY THRESHOLDS.
