WORLD SYSTEMS THEORY

BY JOSEPH BROCCOLI

The world systems theory is a multidisciplinary approach to world history and social change that stresses that the world system should be the primary unit of social analysis.

There are 3 parts of the world system theory that countries fall into.
Core, semi-periphery, and
periphery.

The United States is a core country because they are fully developed and passed the Industrial Age.

Mexico is a semi-periphery country because some parts are fully developed, and some are not.

All of Africa (excluding South Africa) is periphery because it is not close to being developed, lots of poverty, and little to no irrigation.
