CORE

  • High level of education
  • Sophisticated technology
  • High wages and wealth

PERIPHERY

  • Lower education
  • Low saleries
  • Less technology
  • Some people shift from here to the core

  • Called the "Middle Child"
  • Exploited by the core, but they exploit the periphery
  • Cheap labor
  • Prevents polarization
  • Buffer between core and periphery
