WORLD SYSTEMS THEORY

Core: countries that are the industrial capitalist countries.

They are the control and benefit of the global market
-high levels of education required
-sophisticated technologies are used
-wages benefitted higher
-core processes generate wealth

The reason the United States is a core country, is because it requires a school education, and it is a strongly technical, and national development.

Periphery: countries that are less developed that semi periphery
-lower levels of education
-lower salaries
-less technology
-process generates less wealth in world
-mostly rural areas

Vietnam is a periphery country because some citizens do not get educated, most jobs are working in fields
or plantations, and most people cannot afford technology.

Semi-periphery: countries that are industrializing mostly capitalist countries, which are in a state between core and periphery countries.
-core & periphery processes are both occurring
-exploited by the core
-exploit the periphery
-cheap labor
-okay environmental standards

China is considered semi-periphery because they use cheap labor with lots of workers to manufacture and assemble items, and they live polluted environment.
