CREATED BY:GISELLE HERNANDEZ

Poison gas was invented by Fritz Haber. Introduced by the Germans on April 22,1915. There were various types of poison gases, but the most commonly used was mustard gas. Mustard gas left many soldiers in severe conditions. It caused blisters on the skin internally/externally. The gas also left soldiers agony for days with extreme irritation in the throat and nose. The gas became a challenge for the troops since they weren't provided with enough protection. The gas was intense that gas masks wasn't enough for them to protect themselves it also penetrated the clothing.

The advantages a side had of wining was efficient since poison gas is able of killing a massive group of troops. The other advantages was that the group releasing the gas had time to prepare any material needed to protect themselves before releasing. The soldiers protected theirselves in three ways. One way was to put on a gas mask. Second way was to have a cotton pad covered in a solution of biocarbonate of soda. Lastly if soldiers didn't have a mask or cotton pad their last option was to get a cloth covered in urine to protect this up mouth from chlorine.

The disadvantages were that since the gas did spread it would kill members of the group that released the gas. The most common disadvantage was that the gas masks weren't very efficient in protecting the soldiers face. Most likely the gas would go inside the mask and would end up killing the soldier. Sometimes troops were out of luck because they didn't have anything to help themselves with. Like that minutes after the gas was released it would kill the troop. The gas caused instant death because it was thicker that usual air.

Yes, this weapon is still used today. The name poison gas has now changed to chemical gas. The poison gas did change as years passed. Nowadays the gas has become less harmless compared to 1914. Chemical gas does still cause difficulty and discomfort to a person. Chemical gas is not utilized often like it was before.
