THE LONG TERM CUASES OF THE WAR
THE OUTLINES OF EACH COUNTRIES ENTRANCE INTO THE WAR
THE SPARK THAT IGNITED THE WAR
When the Archduke Franz Ferdinand who would be the next King of Austria-Hungary was killed by Gavrilo Princip of Serbia, an enraged Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. With alliances of the countries on both sides jumping in, this soon became a World War.
CENTRAL POWER AND ALLIED POWER
The reasons the U.S. stayed neutral
America wanted to stay neutral because they had a policy of isolationism, which meant they didn't believe in being involved with world affairs or fighting for another country.
They also thought that the Civil War would be their last major war, and thought that Dollar Diplomacy, or improving the economy, was more important.
Finally, they were a symbol of world peace and thought that going to war would corrupt that image.
REASONS THE U.S. ENTERED THE WAR
Over a hundred Americans were killed in the sinking of a British passenger ship, and after three more American ships were sunk despite Germany's agreement not to do so, America was angered.
When America learned of a German foreign minister by the name of Arthur Zimmerman who told the German ambassador in Mexico that if Mexico decided to help Germany in the war, then Germany would aid Mexico in regaining it's former territories that the U.S took, they were very upset.
Also, when Russia dropped out of the war and negotiated peace with Germany after it's revolution, America felt it was only right to help France and Great Britain.
