DOES GERMANY STILL OWE GREECE MONEY FOR NAZI WAR CRIMES?

  • Forced loans from the Greek Central Bank to Nazi Germany totalling 476 million Reichsmarks at 0% interest. Greece’s deputy finance minister has calculated this amount to be equal to €10.3 billion in today’s values.
  • After the conclusion of the war, some countries received substantial reparations for the crimes of Nazi Germany. These reparations were paid jointly by East and West Germany.

THE FATEFUL NAZI OCCUPATION OF LUBLIN

  • The Polish city of Lublin was occupied by Nazi Germany after the 1939 invasion of Poland. Due to its large Jewish population, the city became home to the headquarters of Operation Reinhardt — the German plan to exterminate Polish Jews. A ghetto was created which housed approximately 26,000 Jews before they were transported to the Belzec and Majdanek extermination camps.
