U.S. Troops enter Rome. 155,000 Allied Troops land on the beaches of Normandy

D-DAY CONTINUED

  • Operation overload, began on June 6, 1944, also known as D-Day
  • U.S troops entered Normandy, France, to begin the liberation of Europe
  • American, British and Canadian forces landed on beaches along a 50 mile stretch of land
  • The invasion was one of the largest amphibious military assalts in history

French and American troops liberate Paris
