WRITING OVER THE CIVILIZATIONS
Mesopotamia:
It is located between two rivers, Tigris and Euphrates. They wrote cuneiform. A set of strokes and dashes to represent pictures they used earlier. They carved their writing into soft clay and then would let it harden.
Ancient Egypt:
Egyptians wrote in hieroglyphics. The scribes would write on papyrus. They might have been influenced by Mesopotamia because they used pictures for words as well.
Ancient China:
The Chinese used logograms, where a symbol represents a word. Each character consists a set of strokes in an imaginary square.They might have had strokes because cuneiform also used strokes.
Ancient Greece:
The Greeks were the first Europeans to have an alphabet. Greek letters were adapted from an earlier alphabet developed by the Phoenicians.
Ancient Rome:
The Romans wrote latin, they had an alphabet like the Greeks. They copied the Greeks and also used an alphabet.
Mayans:
The mayans had several hundred glyphs and wrote them in intricate squares. They were influenced by ancient Egypt because they also had pictures for words
Vikings:
Their writing was called runes. They relied on these for fortune telling, casting spells, and protection. They were influenced by rome because their writing is similar to latin.
The Greeks and Romans influenced present day because they also had an alphabet. The vikings influenced the present because some of the letters are still the same as now. The Chinese influenced the present day because we form letters by connecting lines.
Future:
The future might have an alphabet of strokes or dashes Because a lot of the early civilizations had them. The future might also have pictures for words, because the Mayans, Mesopotamia, and Egypt used them. U
