GEOGRAPHICAL FACTS

  • Wulumuqi is located on the North West side of China.
  • Wulumuqi has about 1.753 million people.
  • Wulumuqi is a linear, big city which borders the Silk Road and the Taklamakan Desert.
  • Wulumuqi also borders the Bogda Shan Range and Tianchi.
  • Wulumuqi is a dry area and gets much of its water from nearby lakes.

HISTORY

  • Wulumuqi is a young city.
  • Wulumuqi was created by the Tang Dynasty around 648AD.
  • Wulumuqi used to be a place called Luntai which is 10 kilometres away from modern day Wulumuqi
  • Wulumuqi was a small town near the Silk Road, under the influence of the Tang government.

FOLK TALES

  • Ancient folk tales are popular in Wulumuqi and spread across China.
  • Most folk tales teach people or children lessons on how to behave.
  • Some folk tales are based on reality.
  • An example of a folk tale is the one about a magic paint brush. There was a young man who had a magical paintbrush. Anything he drew would turn to life. He used his paintbrush to help people.

FOOD

  • People in Wulumuqi and China eat things that we would find weird.
  • Some examples of food are fried tarantulas, snake, caterpillars, etc. They also eat yak and cows.
  • In Xinjiang, people mostly eat Mongolian foods. Some of these things may include Yak, noodles, dumplings, rice, beef, etc.
  • People in Xinjiang and Wulumuqi use many different spices in their cooking

CULTURE

  • In the Wulumuqi area, there are many cultures such as Muslim Turkics, Muslim Iranians, Muslim Sino - Tibetans, Han, Mongols (Oirats, Dagur, Dongxiang), Russians, Xibes, and Manchus.
  • These religions vary dramatically and are quite different from each other.
  • Lots of these cultures also are Mongol or have Mongol aspects in them.
  • The culture is very fascinating as it is very different from our own.

TRANSPORT

  • The main forms of transport include air, rail, road, bus and metro.
  • Since there are few lakes near Wulumuqi and Xinjiang is spread out, People usually use trains to travel around.
